Concept
This series follows the adventures of four lovable birds, Plucky, Toots, Groovy and Basher, known collectively as the Early Bird band, as they journey to their next musical performance.
The Early Bird Band is a happy-go-lucky troupe of friends that like nothing more than to entertain people with great music. As they travel from place to place, they discover a whole host of interesting objects. The Early Bird band’s magical instruments have the power to bring the objects to life so that the objects can, through catchy song and dance, describe what they are called and why we need them.
The amazing things that the Band discovers on their travels throughout the story help them to create a wonderful new song that they perform at the end of the episode.
Each member of the band specialises in different areas of music, so that together, they complete the full musical range:
Plucky covers “chords”, specialising in instruments like Guitars, Banjos Mandolins.
Toots, plays “Tunes”, and uses instruments such as violins, flutes, trumpets, saxophones.
Groovy, performs the band’s “Bass” instruments, using Tubas, Trombones, Bassoons.
Basher is on “Drums”, using equipment such as Bongos, Snares, Steeldrums.
In each story the Band are invited to perform a new song at a concert or show, they go to their magic music cupboards to see what instruments will appear for them to use. This gives the characters the ability to change musical sounds and styles for every story, by simply having a different set of instrument appear in the cupboards, giving the opportunity to thrill children with the many wonderful varieties and forms that music encompasses. At the same time, music will play a fun but key role in educating children about everyday objects and their uses. This series aims to ignite children’s imagination and curiosity by using music to promote preschool learning in an exciting and entertaining way.
Characters
Plucky Duck
Ducks aren’t really known for being tuneful, but Plucky isn’t you average duck. He has a huge love of all things musical, and is the leader of the Early Bird Band. Plucky is an adventurous character that gets enthusiastic about just about everything, especially when he learns something new.
Plucky handles playing chords for the band, and uses chord type instruments…well, anything you can strum or pluck.
Toots Flamingo
Toots is a beautiful tall pink Flamingo, she enjoys travelling and seeing new places. Long legged Toot’s is a bundle of energy that likes to keep fit and healthy, and is a keen walker. Toots is at her happiest when she and her friends are making a long trek to their next show. Toots loves finding new objects and discovering what they are used for, she will literally jump up and down with excitement. Toot’s role in the band is to handle the tunes, and is an expert in just about all lead instruments.
Groovy Puffin
Is the shortest and dumpiest member of the Early Bird Band, but what she lacks in height, she more than makes up for in character, she has a bubbly and giggly personality and is enormously eager to learn new and interesting things. Groovy, like her fellow band members loves to play music, and enjoys the big deep rhythmic sounds that only the bass instruments can provide.
Basher Parrot (Drums – drums, bongo’s, snare, steeldrum)
He is the loudest of the four friends, which is appropriate as Basher plays the drums. Like most parrots, Basher is very talkative, sometimes it’s very hard for him to stop. His multicoloured plumage reflects his wonderfully colourful personality. Basher curiosity is as large as his big friendly smile, he enjoys finding out how things work and always endeavours to learn everything he can on a subject.
Jingle
The Early Bird Band’s brightly coloured Robot, Jingle is an excitable character that takes calls from people that want to book the band for an event on her inbuilt receiver. Jingle lives in the bands Sing-Along Studio. Jingle is able to show the gang pictures of the people they will be playing for on her monitor located in her belly, as well as showing them the location they will be travelling to. Jingle is a bright, happy and bouncy character, that loves to see her friends perform, and is the Early Bird Band’s biggest fan.
The Objects
As the characters travel to their destination they will come across a variety of everyday objects. These objects can be anything from Pencils to Tractors. However, once one of the band members plays a tune on their magic instruments, the objects are brought to life, becoming singing characters. If for example, an instrument brings a tractor to life, the tractors role in the story is to then explain to the audience what a tractor is, and why we need them. All of which, is performed in a really catchy song that the children at home can clap along too and join in.
Basic Story Framework of Each Episode
Episode starts with the characters being invited to play at a special event or location.
The characters go to their magical music cupboards to discover what instruments they will be taking with them, before starting on their journey to the concert.
The characters will discover a series of different objects on their journey with a common theme for the episode’s story.
The bands magical instruments will bring those objects to life. Each object will then explain to the band (and audience) what they are, where they come from, and what it is used for, through music and song.
Episode ends with the Band reaching their final destination, and performing a song incorporating all the things they learned on their journey.
