"When Love Has Gone" describes the slices of life from the early 1980s to the first decades of Reform and Opening up through love stories and life experiences of three men and four women, and displays the eternal theme on "Glory and Dream", "Intrigue and Love".

　

In the 1980s……

Wei Guo, Hai Xun and Gao Ming always played together and longed for the outside world since childhood. However, their fate changed since sisters Ma Fei and Du Li appeared.　

Wei Guo wanted to sing his own songs on the stage from an early age. He loved Ma Fei but opposed by Ma Fei’s mother. Meanwhile, Li Zhi-ping, a businessman was crazily going after Ma Fei. He persisted in it though he was refused for many times.

Both Hai Xun and Gao Ming fell in love with Du Li. And Du Li chose Hai Xun. But after joining the army, Hai Xun was unable to accompany Du Li.　

Gao Ming was determined to attend university since childhood. But he had to drop his dream and became a worker due to the poor family conditions. His younger sister Gao Lan liked Wei Guo from childhood, however the appearance of Ma Fei made she leave Nan Jing to Guang Zhou for further development in tears.

In the early 1990s……

Wei Guo ultimately formed his own band but they had been busy running among "Bars" for performance. His life was still poverty-stricken.

Ma Fei became a music teacher in a primary school. Because her mother opposed them, she could only get in touch with Wei Guo secretly. Du Li became a doctor, and Gao Ming had always been granting whatever she requested. Gradually he was accepted by Du Li’s family.

In a "Drug Issue", Hai Xun wounded his eyes in order to rescue his comrades, and he went back to the native place and named himself "Wang Jun". Here he met Du Li, but he told her Hai Xun had already died. Du Li was overwhelmed with sorrow and soon after she married Gao Ming.

Thereafter, Zhang Hui and "Wang Jun"'s wedding made Du Li find Hai Xun. Heard that Du Li still loved Hai Xun, Gao Ming was drinking and played with other women around all day long.

Because of drunkenness, Wei Guo made Gao Lan pregnant, and Gao Lan returned to Guangzhou, secretly giving birth to the child.

Cracks emerged between Ma Fei and Wei Guo……

In the middle and late 1990s……

Zhang Hui took Hai Xun to Guangzhou for transplant of a cornea, but unfortunately she found herself got leukemia. Learning of the news, Wei Guo borrowed money all around to help them, but in vain. Li Zhi-Ping again promised to give Wei Guo a large sum of money as long as he gave up Ma Fei. He had no choice but to break off all relations with Ma Fei.

Finally, Zhang Hui gave one of her cornea to Hai Xun without letting anyone know it. Hai Xun recovered his sight while Zhang Hui was fatally ill.

Knowing that Hai Xun and Zhang Hui were out to seek medical attention, Du Li followed them all the way, and suffered a lot.

Ma Fei secretly mortgaged a sports car Zhi-Ping Li had given to her and helped Wei Guo open a bar. Got Ma Fei's secret help, Wei Guo successfully purchased Li Zhi-Ping and Gao Ming's bars. At the same time, Li Zhi-Ping and Ma Fei held a wedding, and Wei Guo was uproar over the wedding.

Shortly, Gao Ming and Du Li divorced. A year later, Zhang Hui died and Hai Xun lost his sight again. Then Du Li returned to Hai Xun’s side without any hesitation.

Wei Guo heard that Ma Fei had divorced and left the city secretly. At the same time, Gao Lan appeared with a child. Wei Guo didn't know which way to go.

On the first day of 1997, Wei Guo started the journey to find Ma Fei…
