In 1930s, Gu Siye (acted by Li Mingqi), who is the so-called Woman Godfather, dominated in an area of Shanghai. Her adopted daughter -Suo Fei (acted by Kong Lin) - had been coveting his position for a long time, and then she colluded with A Lin (the man-whore of Gu Siye) to murder Gu Siye. However, the plot finally failed, so they had to flee in panic, but they soon dropped into the hands of Liang Guifeng (acted by SiQin Gaowa), who was a knight-errant that always helped the poor by restraining the rich.

Yu Lian, the daughter of Liang Guifeng, worried about that her mother would be in trouble, so she secretly let Suo Fei slip, but her trick was seen through by Liang. Later, Yu Lian secretly tampered with the letter for ransom, resulting in the failure of ransom. Liang was so angry that she decided to drive Yu Lian out of the island, but Hai Long - the adopted son of Liang Guifeng- loved Yu Lian very much and decided to leave the island together with Yu Lian. When Liang Guifeng heard of this matter, she was worried and asked Da Zhuang to bring Cheng Yuan to Zhou Guixi's house for safety. Before leaving, she gave her emerald ring, which has been worn by her for a long time, to Cheng Yuan. Unexpectedly, Gu Siye had already set an ambush for them, and Da Zhuang gave his life to save Cheng Yuan, while Cheng Yuan finally dropped into the hands of Gu Siye.

When Gu Siye saw the ring of Cheng Yuan, she was greatly shocked, since the ring was the keepsake of love of her and her husbands! Therefore, Gu Siye thought that Cheng Yuan was likely to be her long-lost son – A Hu.

Hai Long knew a mysterious woman called Xue Zhu after he arrived in Shanghai. Xu Zhu set a trick to stir up a violent conflict, in which Yu Lian shot herself in order to make Hai Long change his views. Yu Lian expressed her deep love to Hai Long at the moment she was dying.

Hai Long returned to the island, and Liang Guifeng told him the true reason of resentment between her and his father, while Hai Long was in dilemma when he knew the fact. Just at this moment, the news that Cheng Yuan was arrested by Gu Siye arrived, so the resentment between them was shelved temporarily. Liang Guifeng came to Shanghai and began to contend with Gu Siye for her son.

Hai Long gave secret help to Liang Guifeng, but he finally dropped into the hands of Gu Siye. Finally, Gu Siye agreed to exchange hostages with Liang Guifeng, but Liang could only choose one – either Cheng Yuan or Hai Long, so she was in dilemma. Then Gu Siye fetched out the scrip inside the ring of Liang Guifeng and told her the origin of the ring. Liang Guifeng then knew that she had mistakenly regarded the son of Gu Siye as the son of her lover – Xiao Dahai, while Hai Long immediately knew that he was the son of Gu Siye and felt rather painful. Finally, Liang Guifeng chose Hai Long and left her own son to Gu Siye.

Thanks to Liang Guifeng's choice, the misunderstanding between her and Hai Long was thoroughly resolved. Hai Long finally returned to Gu Siye to replace Cheng Yuan with himself. Cheng Yuan had ever heard a nursery rhyme sung by Gu Siye, while the nursery rhyme was just the one her mother taught him, so he noticed that there was extraordinary relationship between Gu Siye and her mother.

Cheng Yuan told his mother about the nursery rhyme, and then Liang Guifeng realized that Gu Siye was just her long-lost sister! A series of contingency made Liang Guifeng feel terrible, so she decided to leave Hai Long to Gu Siye and return to the island immediately. However, when she was going to board a ship, she couldn't found her son Cheng Yuan and her little daughter Ya Tou, so she returned to look for them. Unfortunately, she dropped into the ambush set by Song Hanwu, an understrapper of Gu Siye. Just at the critical moment, Gu Siye, who had already known that Ling Guifeng was just her long-lost sister thought the expatiation of Cheng Yuan, arrived to meet her sister with mixed feelings.

Deplorably, Song Hanwu who was not sensible shot Qi Ma, a loyal and close maid of Liang Guifeng. In this way, the reunion of sisters turned into a bloody battle, and Ya Tou was also killed by the understrappers of Gu Siye. Finally, Liang Guifeng left sorrowfully, while Gu Siye shot herself to death. In this way, the grudge between the sisters ended in endless desolateness.
