In the early 20th Century, Qiu Haitang, the famous female role of Beijing Opera (Xin Boqing plays) in Yuzhen Group fell in love with the female student of Normal University Luo Xiangyi (Huangyi plays). Qiu Haitang wanted to express his love to Luo Xiangyi but lacked of courage because of the mean statue of artist. Some mishaps dropped in the family of Luo Xiangyi's. She married the warlord Yuan Baofan (Wang Xueqi) in order to escape the trap.
Qiu Haitang went to a performance in Tianjin and met Luo Xiangyi by accident. The two persons forgave each other, felling in love again and had the baby. Yuan Baofan found their adultery. He was in great rage, longing to kill them. Qiu Haitang's face was broken by him. Luo Xiangyi gave birth of a girl and sent her to Qiu Haitang to foster. The little girl's name is Meibao and the boy with Luo Xiangyi was addressed Shaoheng.
16 years passed soon. Meibao grew up and became a student of Luo Xiangyi, which proved the deep connection between the mother and daughter. Meibao learnt the Beijing Opera secretly. She became a famous female role soon as she was talented by nature. She and Shaoheng had crush on each other then.
