The story is woven around the dispute between Lian family and Li family in Huizhou City during late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.

Because of a weird kidnapping case, Lian Cheng-wen not only got his ideal bride, but also brought his business that was almost ruined to success. But he hardly realized that because of this kidnapping case designed by himself, he parted the hidden love of his younger brother Cheng-yun and Jin-qiu. Cheng-wen knew that he was wrong while he still got very angry.

And at this moment, Massa Li was put into prison for the reason that Old Lady Lian was afraid new government would punish officials of Qing Dynasty, so she put all tributes in her cousin---Mrs Li's home, but unexpectedly, all tributes were confiscated and caused Massa Li die of despite on the way of exile.

Mother and son of Li family turned their anger on Lian family, and swore to get a bloody nose. Originally, Jin-qiu married into Lian family to save Massa Li by power of Lian family. But at last they got hurt instead of gaining any benefits, which made Master Li unwilling in the heart. Jin Xuan and his trusted aide, Pan Hao-tian laid series of plots to do harm to Lian family. The kind and tough-minded Jin-qiu whole-heartedly helped Cheng-wen. They never understood each other, never accepted each other, but finally they established the steadfast love. But Cheng-wen was framed and was arrested by "poisoning drinking case". In order to save elder brother, Cheng-yun banished Cheng-wen, which caused a lot of bad comment that he did so to revenge on him for robbing his lover Jin-qiu.

Going through adventures that narrowly escaped death, Cheng-wen turned back as a generation of rich merchant, while what waited for him was the more horrible enemy, the initiator of evil of the whole thing, Pan Hao-tian, who had deep animosity and hatred of both Lian family and Li family…
