1.Your Movie is called “Good Luck With That”. Where there any signs of Luck following your Movie?
“Last call with Carson Daly” hosted on the night of Friday the 27.07.2007 the great comedian Andy Dick. Andy performed his new song “Good Luck With That” for the first time on air I believe.
Coincidently our feature film “Good Luck With That” had its World Premiere at the Action on Film International Film Festival the next day, Saturday the 28.07.2007. Since I was sitting in my hotel room and trying to put my press kit together, I thought that was a sign of luck.
Further we had a lot of lucky numbers floating around our premiere. The number 7 is a lucky number in the western world. The Chinese and some other Asian countries consider the number 8 lucky. As said our premiere was on the 28.07.2007 in Theater Number 7.
And last with our film name we tend to attract everyone to wish us luck with the film.
With so much lucky Karma we could not go wrong.
2. Tell us a little bit about your production schedule?
Pre production started in April 2005 with the establishing of the production company Breakenback Films. Until the filming stage, the time was utilized to recruit cast, crew, locations and possible finance. At the beginning, everything seemed very difficult and pointed towards the movie never being made. As there was no finance available, Breakenback Films opted out to shoot a no budget feature on DV and HDV DV. This gave the production an amazing freedom in the way the film is going to be made.
Beeing a no budget production and not being able to shoot in few consecutive weeks, the script was broken up in blocks of 1 and 2 day shoots.
The filming commenced on the 31.07.2006. The shooting was mainly scheduled for the weekends where all the cast and crew were available. As the story is told through stunts, the downtime between the weekend shoots was used for training and stunt preparation, as well as further script development if new ideas came up. Some of Sydney’s best locations are shown in the film such as the Blue Mountains, Sydney Bridge, Opera house, and Bondi Beach, just to name a few. The shooting finished in October 2006. There was a 3-month break from shooting, as Igor had to go to Europe and work as an Actor and Stunt Coordinator on three other feature films. After wrapping “Outlaw” (Bob Hoskins, Sean Bean, Danny Dyer), “WAZ” (Melissa George, Stellan Skarsgard), and “Dirty Sanchez”, Igor was back in Sydney with some well-needed funds for Breakenback Films. “Good Luck With That” has received interest from US and English distribution companies for world wide DVD release.
3. What cameras & lenses & what format video did you shoot on?
We used Cannon XL1 at the beginning of production. Most of our production cameras come with their owner as the camera operator. After the first 2 months into shooting, we lost our first cameraman due to the longevity of the project and no prospect of immediate profit. The only requirement we had for cameras was that they had to be 3ccd to assure broadcasting quality. DCR-VX 1000E was a ten-year-old Sony 3ccd camera that came into the Breakenback Films possession through a friend. With a broken viewfinder, it needed another Sony home camera with LCD screen connected to it, which was then used as a monitor. The age of the camera really gave the movie an old cinema like quality once projected on the big screen, without any need for after effects. In the last months of shooting, the company “Film Support” sponsored us with DV stock and borrowed a Panasonic AG-EZ1. Having a second and in one occasion a third (Sony Z1 HDV) camera, made the shooting of some difficult stunt scenes a lot easier. Some of the stunts involved semi trailer trucks, caterpillars and forklifts, where every take counts. On days like that everybody hopes for one take wonders. A second take would destroy the not existent budget so 3 to 4 angles are “a must” on days like that.
4. What editing platform did you use through production & post-production?
All the editing was done on Final Cut Pro 5. Redline Sound Studios mixed the Sound with Pro Tools. Redline Sound Studios is the company that did Foley mixing on Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” Trilogy Films.
5. Why did you make those choices?
Most of our choices have been made by the availability and budget at the time of shooting/editing. Which means, use what you have until you can improve your position and production value. The production value of the footage shot is worth some 4 million dollars plus, if shot on 35mm with expensive cameras and a big crew. As all the stunts are done for real and with no wires or CGI, the marketing value increases as well. There is some tendency in the recent movie history that viewers enjoy/prefer real footage to CGI.
6.How can fans get hold of more info and Merchendise for GLWT?
Breakenback Films would like to thank everyone who was involved in the project on any level. Also a big thank you to all our fans following our projects, any support was and is still welcome.
7. Tell us little bit about Igor Breakenback?
Igor Breakenback, a method actor and all-round trained stuntman, started on the Austrian television at the age of 15. Soon he went on to act in movie projects in the USA, Asia, Europe, and Australia. As he is more and more getting recognized by the industry not just as an actor, but as a stuntman, writer, and producer, Igor looks like the next long awaited action hero in Hollywood. When he is not working on a project, Igor still performs and raises the standards at stunt festivals worldwide. One of his stunts was a reenactment from the movie "Fast & the Furious". In the original movie this stunt has won the 2003 Taurus Stunt Awards for the best car stunt. Igor and his stunt team have added an explosion to raise the bar in this, since the movie, first staged stunt to take away the 2005 Kollosseum Stunt Awards.
