Engvik to direct 'Paradise'
By GUNNAR REHLIN
STOCKHOLM — Famed Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl will be the subject of Norwegian docu skein “Pa jakt etter paradiset” (Hunting for Paradise).
The series, which is to be helmed and scripted by Bjorn Engvik, is being produced by Aage Aaberge for Nordisk Film on a budget of Norwegian kroner 5.9 million ($1.07 million).
Heyerdahl, who died in 2002, rose to fame with his Kon-Tiki expedition, in which he sailed by raft 4,300 miles from South America to the Tuamotu Islands. A docu about the trip, made in 1950, won both a BAFTA and an Oscar.
Aussie helmer Phillip Noyce has, for many years, been trying to get a feature about Heyerdahl into production, but without any luck.
