Australia's oldest continuous film festival will get a major funding boost to help secure thousands of jobs and the future of the national film industry.
The Sydney Film Festival is in its 57th year and attracts feature-length and short films, as well as documentaries from Australia and more than 50 other countries.
On Monday, the NSW Government announced it would contribute an additional $2.25 million of funding to the festival.
"NSW boasts an incredible depth of creative and technical screen talent, accounting for nearly 50 per cent of all people employed in Australia's screen industries," Ian Macdonald, Minister for State and Regional Development, said in a statement.
"The flow-on effects of the Sydney Film Festival should not be underestimated, both in terms of employment for film industry workers and attracting local and overseas audiences for Australian films."
The boost comes on top of $660,000 already allocated by the Government to the festival in the past three years.
The 2010 festival will run from June 2 to 14 and will visit Wagga Wagga, Dubbo, Byron Bay, Wollongong, Newcastle, Huskisson and Bowraville.
